Youth Summit attendees learned how we identified the impact of COVID variants on communities of color and tackled it! Our safety awareness campaign was designed to reduce rates of absenteeism in schools and businesses as COVID continues to mutate into new variants.
Not only could eligible youth register to vote, but they also viewed the bill we wrote to allow 16-year-olds to pre-register to vote so they can automatically cast a ballot at age 18. Contact us to bring our traveling display to your school to follow the path of our proposed bill.
A major takeaway from our team were the many scientific facts we learned as Junior Docent Interns. Our slide presentation included the causes, immediate effects and long-term impacts of climate change and how they personally become part of the climate change movement.
During the summer we used a pre-made questionnaire to understand the voting behavior of our peers regarding voter education and registration. The study allowed us to understand obstacles that prevent youth from becoming first-time voters when they turn 18. We used the collected data to create a social media voter registration campaign for youth.
Our Youth Environmental Justice Council is addressing the single most important issue of the day – climate change. The program begins with an internship study to demonstrate an understanding and factual knowledge of climate change. Once an Intern passes a comprehensive exam, you become a Junior Docent to "educate the public" with climate tours.
This state-of-the-art laboratory located in the Cobbs Creek Environmental Center, is complete with scientific equipment. A variety of educational programs engage high school students in experiential learning, including collecting and analyzing water and plant samples from two different creeks, a wetland and four trails in Cobbs Creek Park.
